Henri Coanda International Airport of Bucharest

Henri Coanda International Airport is the largest airport of Romania, transited by over 7 million passengers every year.

UTI collaboration with the airport dates back to 1997 when we took part in Phase I of the development and modernization process. The project consisted of security and telecommunications systems design, execution and maintenance. The equipment installed at the time was using the latest technology and was adapted to the security needs of a modern international airport.

In the following year, UTI designed and implemented an integrated parking management system, using a proprietary parking solution. The objective was to increase productivity and revenue by delivering quality services and improve users’ experience.

The year 1999 marked probably the most innovative of the projects implemented by UTI for the Henri Coanda International Airport. In response to the airport’s requirements, UTI developed a fully customized ERP solution, used for the first time by an airport in Romania.

The innovative part of the system consisted of developing an airport activity-related operational module in addition to the financial, HR and security modules of a classic ERP solution. The novelty of the operational module comes from the 3 developed sub-modules: Flight Information, Ground Management, Building Management. Specially designed to meet the specific needs of an airport, the system automatically allots the appropriate resources for each activity: gate assignation, conveyor belt assignation, fueling, parking airport position, shuttle bus entry on the runway, etc.

In 2011 we completed the works within Phase III of the development and modernization process at Henri Coanda International Airport that consisted of the building of a new passenger terminal. The new terminal construction was part of Romania’s plan of accession to Schengen Area and submitted to the technical standards and regulation imposed by Schengen adherence. In this concern, UTI was responsible for the design, execution, and installation of the electrical network, plumbing and sanitary installation, HVAC, sound and telecommunications systems

In compliance with the Schengen requirements, we also executed the security system, integrating the access control components with the CCTV, fire detection, and access control ones.

The building installation works were realized within 10 months, during June 2010-March 2011, 70% of them being finalized by the end of November 2010, with the occasion of Schengen evaluation visit. UTI installed equipment on 16,000sqm of the total of 18,000 square meters of the terminal surface. We also realized the excavation works under the runway platform with its own equipment to connect the site to the power supplying equipment. More than 200 people worked on this project.

In 2013, the airport launched the Domestic Flights terminal for which UTI provided electrical and mechanical installations, low currents installation, baggage and passenger control systems.
