UTI performs ventilation modernization works for the Bucharest subway
In October 2016, UTI has finalized the modernization works for the ventilation installations on the 1, 2, 3 subway lines and the connection lines Petrache Poenarau – Timpuri Noi.
The contract was signed in June 2015, following the public tender organized by Metrorex, while the works have been performed in collaboration with Tiab. All ventilation installation, as well as the electric and sanitary installation in Petrache Poenaru, Petrache Poenaru-Grozăvești connection passage, Grozăvești, Eroilor and Eroilor-Grozăvești intersection have been modernized. The purpose was to increase the passengers’ and the employees’ comfort by improving air quality, as well as to increase the installations’ safety and improvement of the transportation service overall.
As a consequence of the modernization works, the air pressure fluctuation within the tunnels have been eliminated, the piston effect when the train enters the station, as well as air flows at the entrance in the stations have been reduced, better emanation control has been achieved and the phonic protection within the stations has been improved.
The challenge of the project resided in keeping all installations working during the modernization process, while the works have been performed without interfering with the subway transportation schedule.
Currently, UTI performs similar works on the Parc Bazilescu – Straulesti line and on Line 5 of the Bucharest subway, Drumul Taberei –Universitate section.
