Burgas, the fourth largest city in Bulgaria and an important Black Sea touristic attraction was facing problems related to the safety, efficiency, and comfort of public transport.

Components

The solution identified by UTI was to implement an integrated IT public transport management system, competitive and economically efficient.

The contract for the implementation of the integrated IT public transport management, the integrated ticketing, the passenger information and the video surveillance systems was signed at the end of February 2015.

The main aim of the project is to optimize and streamline the public transport conditions, as well as to increase passenger comfort and safety.

The proposed solution integrates several complex systems. Two of the systems are based on proprietary products:  on-board computers Skayo Bridge that gather data related to GPS coordinates, sensors, incidents and provide real-time vehicle location, as well as the fare product validation system  – Skayo Validator.

Previously to the implementation, the BurgasBus transport directorate operated with paper tickets and weekly or monthly subscriptions.

  • Public transportation vehicle management (including the prioritization of their access in traffic)
  • Travelers’ information in real time in bus stops
  • Video surveillance in vehicles, stations and intersections
