UTI Press launches Competitive Intelligence, A New Business Approach by Vasile Paun and Cristina Pop

The volume will be launched at the 6th run of Expo Security, 7-11 May 2003, Romexpo Exhibition Centre. The book is a first attempt to popularise and adapt to the Romanian environment the Western notion of competitive intelligence seen as a structured and permanent process of collecting information regarding the competitive environment, without breaking any legal or ethical rule.

The book was intended to make the Romanian business audience familiar with a field they are quite unaware of, striving to make the role of information (seen as an intelligence product) in relation with competitive effectiveness, profitability and advantages clear and comprehensible.

The book was split into seven chapters with a view to make the reader familiar with the factual matters of the field:

  • Threats faced by the information society
  • Intelligence in a competitive environment
  • Further developments of the competitive intelligence concept
  • The competitive intelligence process
  • Competitive counter-intelligence
  • Ethical and legal matters in competitive intelligence
  • Implementation solutions for companies
  • 8 addenda that account for some of the most important techniques used by the Western companies provide a more concrete explanation of certain matters approached by the book.

The audience the volume addresses includes not only managers and specialists in the fields that are known to use extensively intelligence products (market research, marketing, financial analysis, internal security, strategic planning) but also students, the staff of government intelligence departments and private business owners.
