Timisoara, Romania – Automated Fare Collection System

The common goal of UTI and the Municipality of Timisoara  was not only to strengthen the public transport quality in Timisoara by installing a new and modern automated fare collection system but also to allow passengers to get to their destination faster,  reduce the daily road congestion, and deliver precious information to the local authorities.

The system is made up of two subsystems:

• a fare collection subsystem that improves the traveling conditions for the Timisoara citizens
• a vehicle monitoring system that gives the authorities information on the public transportation system

This ticketing system also allows fraud elimination within the public transportation vehicles, as the vehicles are equipped with translators that record the number of the passengers that get on the vehicles and how many of them validate the card.
