On September 20-23, 2016 the SafeShore consortium members organized the project’s second workshop and a site survey. This project is financed through the Horizon 2020 Program of the European Commission, the Call BES-02-2015 Maritime Border Security and it is implemented by: Military Royal Academy in Belgium, Queen Mary University in UK, Salento University in Italy, the companies: Dr. Frucht Systems Ltd. from Israel, UTI Grup from Romania, TG Drives from the Czech Republic, Optix from Bulgaria, The Institute of Optoelectronics in Romania, Protection and Guard Service in Romania, Public Security Ministry in Israel, Coast Police in Belgium.

The 4-day workshop sessions were hosted by the Romanian Partners of the consortium: UTI Grup, Protection and Guard Service, Institute of Optoelectronics and were held in Bucharest and Constanta. They were completed by a site survey with two Black Sea ports: Midia and Constanta. The purpose of the site survey was to decide on the main system test area that fulfils all the project requests.

The SafeShore experts will develop a detection solution for drones that carry illegal substances, drugs or which can be used to launch attacks on critical infrastructures or public officials. The system will be able to detect also small boats that transport people, explosives, etc. in order to supplement the existing detection systems operated by the border police/coast guard along maritime borders.
