UTI develops the cloud infrastructure that will streamline the activity of public institutions

The Cloud Infrastructure Project for public institutions in Romania was awarded by the public tender organized by the National IT Research and Development Center and will take 12 months to unfold.

It consists in the implementation of a cloud computing platform that allows the provision of Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) to public institutions in Romania and the direct implementation of public interest electronic services: a virtual library and an integrated public data presentation service.

The project’s objective is to modernize, develop and streamline the public services provided to citizens, to increase the transparency of public institutions’ activity and to facilitate inter-operability between public electronic services.

From a technological point of view, the project is very complex, using state-of-the-art technologies and equipment, communication and IT infrastructure that will ensure the consolidation of data centrally, the continuity of services in case of emergency, the definition of a framework that efficiently responds to the provision and use of the IaaS.

The implemented system will have an important contribution to the increase of the efficiency of public services, will allow easy access to information by means of a web portal, will improve operational management by efficient assignment of resources and will contribute to cost reduction.

The project is funded through the Structural Funds of the European Union within the Sectoral Operational Programme for the Increase of the Economic Competitiveness, Axis III – IT and Communication Technology for the private and public sectors.

UTI developed and implemented various innovating solutions in order to computerize key systems nationally: the electronic health file, the electronic vignette, the computerized criminal record system, the portability of phone numbers, the computerized navigable canal management system.
