Bucharest underground transport system was inaugurated in November 1979. In 2015, the metro network system was composed of 4 metro lines with 51 stations, measuring 69.25 kilometers (43.0 mi), ensuring the daily transportation of over 600,000 passengers, in almost all the areas of the capital.

Since 2009, Metrorex has undergone a massive modernization and extension program of the Bucharest underground transport system. UTI took part in almost all the phases as a technical subcontractor.

The works provided

  • Modernization of M1 and M3 Lines: rehabilitation of medium and low voltage electrical installation, development and implementation of the energetic tele- mechanics system, execution, and commissioning of the UPS system, rehabilitation of direct current (DC) installation, HVAC Installations
  • Construction of Line 4: gallery construction works, complete installations for the depot, multimodal terminal, and stations
  • Construction and development of Line 5: complete installation works for stations, railways, and depot
