KALISZ, Poland – Traffic Management System

Kalisz is an important commercial and industrial site in the central part of Poland that had to face traffic jams both within and outside the city limits due to the faulty infrastructure and to the lack of an integrated traffic light system.

Solution

To provide the city with smooth traffic flow, UTI has modernized and rehabilitated 23 intersections with traffic lights, traffic controllers and detectors, video cameras and performed all the pertaining works: electrical installations, telecommunication network, temporary road signaling, and permanent traffic organization.

The project is innovative thanks to its scope: a medium system that integrates numerous intelligent sub-systems.

Components

The integrated system is made up of several subsystems:

• Urban traffic control
• Drivers’ dynamic information
• Penalty application based on the medium traveling time on a specified road segment
• Urban video surveillance
• Red light violation
• Automated tracking of the vehicles under confinement
• Weigh in motion
• Vehicle classification system
• Fiber optic communication network

All systems are connected centrally within the Traffic Management Center. The system is open and fully scalable and allows the addition of new systems or functionalities.
