Sofia, the largest city in Bulgaria, was becoming more crowded as road traffic was increasing at the same pace with the development of the city. The already installed traffic management system was outdated and its complete replacement was not possible.
Solution
The solution UTI proposed was to provide corrective and preventive maintenance services for the existing traffic management system that covered 400 intersections and to perform modernization works of the existing infrastructure.
The challenge resided in the simultaneous management of numerous intersections, as well as the short intervention and correction time, established according to the contract to 45 minutes/intervention.

- Preventive and corrective maintenance of the traffic management system and traffic monitoring in over 400 intersections
- Monitoring of the systems within the Control Center and replacement of the old equipment
- System testing and commissioning
- Modernization of the existing infrastructure: replacement of the traffic controllers with state-of-the-art equipment, compliant with the European regulations
UTI has installed proprietary traffic controllers – KTraffic Controller – to adaptively manage traffic by adjusting green light times to the traffic values gathered in real time.
The system is permanently monitored from the control center by the traffic management software developed by UTI – KeyDaptive.
